The Board of Directors was made up of Glen Faunce (president), Chet Nolf (Vice President), Terrence Burns (Treasurer), Karin Durkee (secretary), Dave Tesorero, Karen Jackson, and Paul Rinn over the past year. The board’s first order of business over the past year was to transition to a new management company. The board decided to retain the services of Armstrong Management as our new management company. The transition from Cardinal Management to Armstrong Management took some time but things have settled down and Tom Wade, the current property manager, has represented Armstrong well for Barrington.
This year is the last year that Chet Nolf and Paul Rinn will serve on the board of directors (BOD). Chet has served on the Board for Barrington for many years, most of which he served as president. He has taken a new job in Alabama and decided to step down from the board. Paul Rinn served on the BOD for six years and elected not to run for another term. Both Chet and Paul have served Barrington’s interests well over the years and their knowledge and insight will be missed tremendously. .
At the 2007 annual meeting in March three board members were elected. Karin Durkee’s term had ended, and she was elected to serve a new three year term. Karin continues to be a valuable member of the board and is the co-leader of the Mothers of Barrington. Dan Bush was elected as a new member to the board to serve a three year term, and AJ Young was elected to serve a two year term.
Crystal Aquatics completed its 3rd year of a 5 year contract for the management and maintenance of the community pool. Prior to opening the pool this year several maintenance issues were taken care of by Crystal including: replacing the pool lights and gaskets, caulking around the pool deck, and new dry decking in both the men’s and women’s bathroom.
The improvements and grounds committee, whose sole member consists of Kim Earl, has worked hard over the past year to improve the look of the front entrance. Starting in June she met with ten different landscaping companies, including Professional Grounds who is our landscaping company for 2006, and received only two bids. Both bids where extremely high and were voted down by the board in late November in favor of waiting until spring. Due to problems experienced with the current landscape company servicing Barrington, the board voted to switch Landscaping companies for the second consecutive year. JTB Innovations was selected in the early part of 2007 and Kim has been working with the new landscaping firm to get front entrance in shape for the spring.
The Architectural Review Committee (ARC) has continued to review neighborhood applications and police the neighborhood for violations despite losing many of its members over the past year. John Soma, who has been serving his second term as the chairman, has stepped down from the ARC. Rob Rhode, who became a member late last year, stepped up to become the chairman of the ARC along with other new members, Gerry Korpusik and Connie Maternik. Eric Edmonds also continues to serve on the ARC. The neighborhood is now about 15 years old and many of the homes in the neighborhood have begun to show the signs of wear that come with time on any house. The members of the ARC do a thankless job for the neighborhood in trying to keep it looking great.
Beth Velkoff continues to do a fantastic job with neighborhood watch. We now have the full compliment of block captains for the neighborhood thanks to all Beth’s hard work. If you are at all interested in helping to patrol the neighborhood once or twice a year, please contact Beth.
The Mothers of Barrington (MOB) continues to be one of the strongest and most active committees in Barrington. The co-leaders, Karin Durkee, Lisa Pappas, and Susan Tesorero have worked hard in organizing such activities as: the Christmas party, the Barrington egg hunt, the Halloween parade, community yard sales, and many other activities for adults and kids in the neighborhood.
The Regional Affairs Committee (RAC), has been headed by Rob Robertory since it’s inception several years ago. After spearheading the effort to get Barrington included in the Boundaries of the new South County School, Rob has decided to step down from the RAC. Chris Bachman, who has also been involved in the high school boundary study, has taken over the duties to work on getting a middle school. We are currently looking for someone to be on the RAC to attend meetings at the South County Federation and/or the South Springfield Alliance to keep the community informed on issues that will affect us in the future.
The Barrington Online Bulletin (BOB) continues to be a great source of information for Barrington residents. The BOB is sent out biweekly via email and regularly contains such things as community events, classifieds, editorials, and opportunities for community service. If you would like to be on the distribution list, please contact Margene Simms or Kim Earle.
The Barrington Board has worked hard over the past year to make the community run as smoothly as possible. This can not be done without the many volunteers that sit on and help run the various committees in Barrington. The work done by these individuals is what truly makes Barrington a premiere community. I would urge anyone interested in helping in any way to contact me or any other board member.
