Mothers of Barrington (MOB)MOB, which originally stood for Mothers of Barrington, is a social group open to ALL Barrington women. Members include women with no children, women with babies to grandchildren and everything in between. The group meets one evening a month to socialize, share ideas, and keep the women in the neighborhood connected and informed.
MOB meetings take place at a host’s home and are a casual affair. Everyone brings an hors d’oeuvre, dessert, or bottle of wine to share. Women begin showing up at 7:00 P.M. and socialize for about an hour. Then there is a short meeting to discuss neighborhood activities, community issues, and current topics of interest. After the meeting, women often continue to socialize for a short-time before leaving for the evening. Dates and locations of upcoming meetings are posted in the Barrington Online Bulletin and in the marquis at the entrance to the neighborhood.
How do you join MOB? Just come to one meeting and you’re a member. Easy! Whether you come every month or once a year, you’ll always be welcome. There’s something for everyone at the MOB gatherings: friendship, camaraderie, community information, design ideas (from seeing the host’s home), desserts, hors d’oeuvre, and plenty to drink.
“I really enjoy mixing with a lot of different women from throughout the neighborhood – not just the people I always see, but fun old and new friends!” – Kathy Kalland
“MOB provides outreach to our community. I love the fact that we collect school supplies, help with food drives, and make a difference to people in need.” – Chris Hulse
“I always learn something new at MOB and meet new neighbors.” – Kristi Otto
“MOB is my no-cook night!” – Beth Rockwell
“I come to MOB to see people I normally don’t get to see.” – Linda Sciacca
MOB meets every month at a host’s home beginning at 7:00 P.M. Dates and locations are posted in the Barrington Online Bulletin and in the marquis at the entrance to the neighborhood. Bring an hors d’oeuvre, dessert, or bottle of wine to share.

On August 19th, 1988 Silverbrook Road Associates which was comprised of a number of builders, filed the Declaration of Covenants, Conditions, and Restrictions for the Barrington Community then in its infancy. It declared that any property (lot) held, conveyed, acquired, and occupied was subject to the Covenants and Restrictions set forth in the Declaration. Silverbrook Road Associates then created The Barrington Homeowners' Association, a Virginia non-stock corporation, as the organization to which the powers of owning, maintaining, and administering the community properties and facilities as well as the powers to administer and enforce the Covenants and Restrictions set forth in the Declaration were assigned. In Article II, 2.1, the Covenants state that the owner of a lot which is subject to the terms of the Declaration shall be a member of the Homeowners Association, and that such membership cannot be separated from the ownership of the lot.
What does that mean? Anyone who has purchased a home in Barrington is by virtue of THE LOT a member of the Homeowners Association and must adhere to the Declaration of Covenants, Conditions, and Restrictions. OPTING OUT IS NOT A CHOICE as much as we all would love to do that at one time or another.
Why should you seek ARC approval before embarking on a modification to your home or lot? ARC is Barrington Homeowner Association's instrument to ensure that your plans conform to the standards set forth by the community guidelines and Covenants.
Let us assume you want to sell your home. You did a great job putting in a retaining wall, a goldfish pond, lovely landscaping, and a pretty storm door. A couple of years later, you expanded your deck and added stairs. Your buyer is happy that you are leaving the satellite dish that adorns your roof. So, what is the problem? What have you not done? You have not gotten ARC approval for these projects.
As part of the sales process, the management company is required to provide a copy of the Declaration of Covenants, Conditions, and Restrictions to your buyer's agent. The next step is CERTIFICATION by the management company that the property offered for sale is in full compliance with the Declaration and ARC Guidelines. A representative of the ARC will be asked to inspect your property and review your file. If you have made modifications without getting ARC approval, you are not in compliance. The ARC has NO CHOICE but to notify the management company that your property is NOT IN COMPLIANCE as mandated. The information will be sent to your buyer's agent where it can delay or cancel the closing process if the buyer so chooses.
Please take the time to read the Covenants and ARC Guidelines. The quick sale of your home may one day depend on it. If you are not sure that all of the improvements to your home and property were approved by the ARC, give us a call. We will gladly review your file with you and assist you in obtaining retroactive ARC approval.
Neighborhood WatchNeighborhood Watch is a crime prevention program that relies on concerned citizens in communities throughout the United States to learn how to properly and successfully watch out for their communities and their neighbors' property, thereby reducing criminal activity.
Our Barrington community has had an active Neighborhood Watch program since our neighborhood was created because our residents care about the safety and security of our community. Our Neighborhood Watch program is run in conjunction with the Crime Prevention Office of the West Springfield Station of the Fairfax County Police Department.
Our Neighborhood Watch program consists of a Neighborhood Watch Coordinator/Co-Coordinator, Block Captains and Patrollers. Our program operates on a zone system in which Barrington is divided into 12 zones, each with approximately 40 contiguous homes. Each zone has a Block Captain and is responsible to watch the community for one month each year. Each zone should ideally have 10 patrollers, who would share the patrolling responsibilities for their assigned month.
Our Neighborhood Watch Coordinators/Co-coordinators serve as liaison between the Police Department's Crime Prevention Officer and the Block Captains. The Coordinator/Co-Coordinator is responsible for disseminating information from the police to the block captains, and maintains a master list of all watch members working with block captains to develop successful patrols based on current criminal activity. This position also attends police district coordinator's meetings scheduled by the crime prevention office to keep current with criminal activities, challenges and successes in other local communities."
Our Block Captains serve as liaisons between the coordinator and the residents. The block captains recruit new watch members and maintain a current list of watch patrollers. The block captains coordinate patrol assignments for their designated month. They may also assist the coordinator in planning and conducting patroller training sessions, community events and activities.
Our Patrollers serve as watchful eyes for our community. They should attend a training session for new participants to ensure a safe and successful program. Typically, they are responsible for patrolling the entire community with a partner for one week each year. Patrols can be conducted by walking or driving throughout the community and recording and reporting any suspicious or criminal activity. For this program to be successful, we need approximately 10 residents from each zone to be patrollers, or approximately 120 residents. We currently have approximately 100 patrollers throughout the neighborhood. This is a wonderful show of support for the program and its ideals, but we obviously still need more patrollers.

Sign-Up To Be A Patroller!
Contact the block captain for your street (listed above) to sign up to be a neighborhood watch patroller (to patrol Barrington for 1 week ea. yr.)
Watching out for your neighbors can be accomplished in a variety of ways. One is, of course, to be a part of the Neighborhood Watch program. You can also be a great help to our community by reporting suspicious or criminal activities that you may witness through passive observation or window watching.
There are many avenues in Fairfax County for reporting suspicious or criminal activities. They are all useful tools for protecting our community from future nuisance or criminal activity. The police have set up these avenues to allow citizens to record and report information that can help them more successfully protect our communities. The numbers and websites are as follows:
Call 911 Immediately
To report a crime in progress and/or a life-threatening situation when a police officer and/or other emergency service is needed.
Call 703-691-2131
To report a crime that has already taken place, or a suspicious person or activity, use this non-emergency reporting number for the Fairfax County Police Department. Use this method if you want to speak with or see a police officer.
Call 703-922-7938 or go to Fairfax County Policy Emergency Site
To report a crime that has already taken place, or a suspicious person or activity, call this automated reporting line or use this link to file a non-emergency police report with the Fairfax County Police Department. Use this method if you do not need to speak with or see a police officer.
Go to Fairfax County Traffic Safety Site
To report aggressive driving or an unbuckled child, file an online report. The form is simple: you report the license plate number, the date you witnessed the incident, and a few other details. The owners of the vehicle will receive an informational letter asking them to obey Virginia's safety laws.

In March 1984 the FCPA approved a park on Lake Mercer. This park would have an entrance on Silverbrook road which would start down by Haddington and end up with a park reaching Lake Mercer by Deveron Ct., affecting the whole east side of Barrington. It would back right up to the homeowners land on the streets of the east side of Braymore Circle. They have designated campsites and parking for over 200 cars as well as a boat ramp. This project is not currently active or funded, to our knowledge, but it is something we should keep an eye on.

What should I do if I have not registered for the pool?
Annual registration occurs prior to each Summer season.

If you only need stickers for last year's pass, simply fill out the registration form. If you don't have one you can download it at the bottom of this page.
If you need passes, you must include a 1" by 1" picture (clearly marked by name) for each family member requiring a pass, along with the completed registration form.
Place the documentation in the registration box located outside the pool (you may wish to place a courtesy call to Sharon Spinazzola to let her know it was submitted). All requests placed in the registration box require 2 to 3 business days for processing. Adult patrons may pick up passes from the lifeguard's station at the pool, after processing.
