The Barrington Blue Fins is a community swim team established in 1995 by a group of parents who wanted to develop a competitive community sport utilizing our pool for children between the ages of 5 through 18, mixed with both girls and boys, to keep them busy and physical over the summer break. The Barrington Swim Team competes with other area communities in the Colonial Swim League. The league consists of 22 teams, divided into 4 Divisions. In the 2002 season, the Barrington Blue Fins came in second in the Gold Division, winning four out of five meets.
In 1997, a developmental program began to help the younger Barrington resident swimmers grow into a longer more vigorous practice session. The requirement is the ability to swim across the pool. Not only are the swimmers Barrington residents, we have been very fortunate to have a wonderful coaching staff who also live in Barrington.
This year, the Blue Fins are pleased to welcome back Head Coach Kevin Walter for a second season as well as, Leah Wolter and Jessie Schultz as assistant coaches. Barrington will remain in the competitive White Division of the Colonial Swim League.
The swim season will begin on Monday, June 1st with a team meeting at the pool at 4:00 pm Practice will begin June 2nd from 4:00pm to 6:00pm (time will vary depending on age group). Morning practice will begin on June 21 from 8:30am to 11:00am. Time trials will be held at the pool on Saturday, June 12. Other Saturday meets at home will be, June 19, June 26, and July 3. Wednesday developmental meets will be at home on June 23 and July 7.
Many fun activities are being planned for the swimmers and their families for the summer including: Kings Dominion, Picnic at Burke Lake, Movie Night at the pool, ice cream socials, talent show, pep rallies and more. This is truly a positive family sport that helps create a connection to other families in the Barrington Community.
